Our History

MacDermid Lamarsh is an established, highly experienced and dynamic law firm that has a long and proud tradition of service.

The MacDermid Lamarsh firm was formed in 1987 with the merger of two of Saskatchewan’s oldest law firms.

MacDermid & Company was established in 1903 by J.D. Ferguson. In 1908 he invited Fred MacDermid, a recent graduate of the University of Manitoba, to join him in his practice in Saskatoon.

The historical roots of Lamarsh & Company date back to 1913 when Bill Gilchrist set up practice in Saskatoon. He was joined by Archie Lamarsh in 1930 and the firm eventually came to bear his name.

The firm’s history is inextricably interwoven into the political and economic fabric of Saskatchewan. Fred MacDermid was instrumental in bringing the potash industry to this Province, he was a founder of the Saskatoon Club and his shining legacy, the Saskatoon Foundation. Archie Lamarsh’s many accomplishments include: the establishment of low income and subsidized housing in Saskatoon, and the founding of CJNB radio in North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
